Xootr Australia is pleased to announce that we are now selling the Xootr Swift folding bicycle in Australia and New Zealand. We also stock several popular accessories which you can view on the accessories page of this website.
The Xootr Swift is one of the best folding bicycles you can buy in the world for 5 simple reasons:
1. When unfolded, the size of the Xootr Swift is nearly identical to a full-size bike, providing a great ride.
2. Excellent build quality with top quality parts.
3. Very easy to fold - it only takes 5 seconds.
4. It feels solid like a real bike, not flimsy or like a kid's bike.
5. It comes with 5 different size seat posts: small, medium, large, extra large, and extra extra large to cater for different size people (see details below in FAQ's)
Product Specification
Frame. 6061-T6 custom-profiled aluminum tubing, TIG welded. Patent-pending TrusFold system for maximum frame rigidity. Horizontal dropouts with replaceable derailleur hanger. CroMoly straight taper fork.
Dropout dimensions. The rear dropout has horizontal slots so it can accommodate a single-speed or internal-gear hub as well as a hub with a cassette/derailleur. It is spaced at 132.5mm so it can be compressed slightly for 130mm hubs or spread slightly for 135mm hubs. This means is fits pretty much any standard road, mountain or hybrid hub in common use.
Wheels. Aluminum box-section rims, 36H, with spoke eyelets and machined sidewalls; 2mm stainless steel spokes; Quando CNC machined hubs with sealed bearings. Kenda Kwest 20 x 1.5 65psi tire with schrader valve tube (old 100 psi tire with presta valve tube shown).
Drivetrain. SRAM SX 5 grip shifter; SRAM SX 4 derailleur (old SRAM 4 derailleur shown); SRAM PG-850 11-28T cassette; Jagwire derailleur cable; KMC Z72 chain; 52T single-chainwheel aluminum alloy crankset (170mm) with chainguard. Sealed-cartridge bottom bracket.
Pedals. Wellgo 924, aluminum alloy cage and body.
Brakes. Tektro Quartz MT-14 V-Brake and Tektro 325A levers.
Handlebar. 500mm width aluminum alloy with SRAM rubber grips.
Stem. 60 mm x 40 degree single-piece forged stem. (100mm x 30 degree stem swapped in for tall riders and 60mm x 5 degree stem swapped for short riders.) CroMoly stem riser (250mmL).
Seat. Velo VLG-3029 Plush Comfort with Ozone. (This is a mid-width recreation saddle. Sport riders may wish to swap in a narrow racing saddle.)
Seat Post. 6061-T6 aluminum; 515mm 32.9mm; microadjust clamp (3" cut for small riders and longer seat posts installed for taller riders at the factory or dealer).
Weight. 9.9 kg (22 lbs.).
The Xootr Swift is inherently a very light bike due to the structural efficiency of the TrusFold frame system. We do equip it with some bulletproof 65psi tires and tubes, which actually adds almost 2 lbs (1 kg) to the weight. We also equip the Swift with a generous saddle. If you want to skimp on weight, just put on a lightweight tire/tube set and a racing saddle.
Xootr Swift Frequently Asked Questions
How fast is the Xootr Swift bike?
For a given amount of power delivered to the pedals, this bike is faster than most mountain or "hybrid" bikes. At 25kph on a level road, this bike requires about 3% more power than a racing bike with narrow high-pressure 700C tires.
Do I have to pedal faster because of the smaller wheels?
No. The Swift is set up with a larger front chainring, so that the bike pedals just like a bike with large diameter wheels.
How easy is the bike to fold?
The Swift bike has the simplest folding mechanism on the market. Just slide the seat up a little way and fold it up. With practice, you'll be able to do this in 5 seconds.
Can I ride the bike off paved roads?
Sure. The photo to the right is some single-track we recently rode on the stock Kenda tires. The path was pretty smooth, but with some roots and a few sandy spots. The Swift did just fine.
If you do a lot of riding off pavement, we suggest you put on a set of 1.5inch (37mm) BMX-tires. This is not the right bike, however, for riding on trails with big obstacles like boulders and logs. Stick to your full-suspension mountain bike for that.
What does the bike feel like to ride?
Pretty much like an average "hybrid" ride. It's more stable than a racing bike and a bit more responsive than a mountain bike. Any new bike will feel a bit different for the first few minutes of riding. After a few days, the Swift bike will feel like you've ridden it all your life.
How does the riding position compare to my "regular" bike?
First, let us point out that the Swift can be your "regular" bike. Unless you race or do narly mountain biking, the Swift can be your "one bike." The photo below is an overlay of the Swift on the outline of a Trek hybrid bike. You can see that the wheelbase is essentially identical. The seat-to-handlebar distance is also nearly identical. This explains why the Swift has such a solid feel and comfortable ride. This is not an itty bitty toy bike like some folders...it feels like riding a high-quality 700C hybrid bike.
Are there any disadvantages to a compact-wheel bicycle?
Only two. First, smaller wheels have slightly higher rolling resistance than larger wheels. This is not a noticeable effect for anyone but racers. Second, smaller wheels handle large obstacles (boulders, logs, curbs) less readily than larger wheels. This will also not be noticeable in most applications. See our discussion of 406mm wheels.
How do I make sure I get a good fit?
We set-up your bike at the factory based on the size selection you provide during the order process. If you're between 5 ft tall and 6 feet 4 inches tall, we can fit you with high confidence.. If you need to make an adjustment afterwards, that's easy too. If you prefer, you can buy the Swift bike from a dealer, who will have a factory-certified fitting system.
Where can I buy a Swift?
Right here. We offer a 30-day no-questions-asked warranty, so if you don't like it, just send it back.
Does the Swift come in different sizes?
Yes - it comes with the following size seat posts:
Size S - You are less than 5'5" (1.65m) tall.
We remove 3 inches (75mm) from the seat post and install a short stem.
Size M - You are between 5'5" (1.65m) and 5'10" (1.78m) tall.
No changes are made to the Swift. The stock seat post and stem are used.
Size L - You are between 5'10" (1.78m) and 6'2" (1.88m) tall.
We keep the stock seat post and install a long stem.
Size XL - You are between 6'2" (1.88m) and 6'5" (1.96m) tall.
We install a longer seat post (590mm) and a long stem.
Size XXL - You are between 6'5" (1.96m) and 6'7" (2.01m) tall.
We install a longer seat post (640mm), a long stem, and a taller riser (300mmL).
Do you sell spare parts and can you change and replace certain parts on a Swift?
Yes, we sell spare parts for the Swift. If you wish to make some minor tweaks, like swap the saddle, pedals, or tires, you can do that at your local bike shop.
Where did the Swift design come from?
Peter Reich created the Swift Folder more than 10 years ago. He refined his design over the last decade and built and sold hundreds of bikes to New Yorkers. In 2004, Xootr LLC evaluated dozens of different bike designs and decided that the Swift Folder was the most elegant design on the market and licensed the Swift Folder from Design Mobility, Peter's company. We at Xootr worked with Peter to make some additional patent-pending refinements, such as an all-aluminum frame design and a modular dropout system, that were only possible through higher-volume production techniques.
